HOW TO PRESENT YOUR SPEECH AND BE SUCCESSFUL. OVERCOME ANXIETY, ENGAGE THOSE PRESENT, ENCHANT PEOPLE. FIND YOUR STYLE AND IMPROVE YOUR COMMUNICATION AND SOCIAL SKILLS.

Introduction

Public speaking people are constantly asking how they can overcome the fear of speaking in front of an audience? There is only one answer to this question and that is to PRACTICE! There is no magic pill or formula that is going to turn you into the next Les Brown. As with any skill in life, the more you practice, the better you will get at it. The only way you are going to learn how to speak is by speaking.

All I can do in this manuscript is give you tips on how best to prepare before you take the plunge. One of the best orators of all time was so nervous when he performed his first public speech that he had to take a seat before he could finish it. Beecher was always extremely nervous before he spoke in public. What I am trying to say, is that there is nothing new under the sun, you are not the first person to experience nerves about speaking in public and you won’t be the last. Here are some tips on how you can improve your confidence before getting in front of an audience.

Absorb Yourself in Your Subject

When you are passionate about something you are going to want to know every last detail about it. This is a great way to start, educate yourself enough so that you are sufficiently confident about the subject that you will be addressing. Consume yourself with it, concentrate on it and focus on it so much that there will be no room for fear to reside.

When you are self-conscious, it means that you are conscious about yourself. However, this becomes a problem when you are only conscious about your faults and you assume that this is what your audience is going to see. When you speak in front of a group of people, ultimately you are there to deliver a message. The most important aspect of your speech is whether or not your message was received.

Know What You Are Going to Say

One of the major problems with people who stand in front of an audience is a lack of preparation. You can’t prepare the night before and expect to stand in front of 500 people with confidence; it’s not going to work out for you. When your mind draws a blank, you are going to fill the vacuum with self-conscious negative thoughts. “I know I’m going to fail,” “Do I look ok?” “How do I sound?” If you want to deliver something of value, you are going to have to prepare yourself by knowing what you are going to say and how you are going to say it. Make sure that you know the first few sentences off by heart so that you are not struggling to find something to say at the beginning of your speech. If you have mastered your subject and you have practiced your speech, you should have nothing to fear.
